What Are Some Weird Wines?

What Are Some Weird Wines?

Just like potato chips, ice cream, and some chocolates, there are also some weird wine flavors. Not just flavored wines, mind you, but also wines made from the least expected ingredients, and considering they exist, it goes to show that there are, at least, a few people that like them, so what are some weird wines?

1) Jalapeño wine

Like previously mentioned, this wine is a perfect example of using an unexpected ingredient to make wine.

Unlike fruits (or even some vegetables), to create jalapeño wine, you will need to use a blender and some water to create the "juice." From there, you can use either sugar, raisins, or a combination of both to create a fermentation with the yeast. If you decide to make this wine, please take proper care since you are dealing with chilis, after all.

The flavor has been described as warm and spicy, not an unexpected development there, but this particular wine works well as a cooking wine, rather than a drinking one.

2) Meteorite wine

"It cannot possibly be an actual meteorite," you may think, but you would also be wrong. Yes, it is a wine that uses an actual meteorite that fell to Earth from space. To be a little more specific, however, it is a Cabernet Sauvignon that has been aged with a chunk of meteorite. So this is an example of an oddly-flavored wine.

3) Bear bile wine

This one hails from the Land of Dragons, China. This particular wine is really more of a traditional medicine than it is an accompaniment to a meal. Then again, it could very well be drank with food.

While it does use actual bile from a bear, it is not included in the fermentation process, but, rather, it is added after the fact.

The reason it is probably used in traditional medicine is because of the high content of ursodeoxycholic acid which is used in actual modern medicine found in pharmacies used for the treatment of liver and gall bladder conditions.

4) Mushroom wine

This one is probably more palatable than the previous one, but does not make it any less odd. Then again, it may be odd from a Western perspective considering this one also hails from Asia. South Korea to be specific.

Mushrooms themselves tend to be divided, they are either loved or hated, but if you are ever in South Korea, it probably would not hurt to give it a try. It is said to have an earthy and mushroomy but sweet taste but not overpowering, and is said go down quite easily despite having a 13% ABV.

5) Garlic wine

A lot of people love garlic; in pasta, as a seasoning, as a potato chip flavor. If you would try to guess if this also comes from Asia, no, it is much closer than you think. Garlic wine is said to be originally made in California, and, as you can guess, it is said to be quite pungent. As to how it is made, well, it is indeed fermented.
